Using Florida FES-UA scholarship funds for TBoard
If your child has a Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA), the scholarship may pay you back for a communication app. Here is what this year's purchasing guidelines say, and how to get the receipt your SFO asks for.
What the 2026-27 guidelines say
The FES-UA Purchasing Guidelines for 2026-2027, dated July 1, 2026, list what scholarship funds can buy. Three passages matter for a communication app:
- Under Assistive Technology Devices, the examples include “Augmentative communication device”, “Proloquo2Go” and “Text-to-speech (TTS) or speech synthesizers”.
- Under Digital Materials: “Scholarship funds can be used to purchase digital material such as CDs, DVDs, and digital documents, including subscriptions or memberships to eBooks, audiobooks, productivity, behavioral, and/or educational applications (apps).”
- On payment: “The SFO will reimburse parents/guardians for their purchase of eligible products or services that meet their student’s educational needs.”
The guidelines do not name TBoard. Whether it counts for your child is your SFO's decision.
Ask your SFO before you buy
Your SFO (Scholarship Funding Organization) runs your child's scholarship account: for example, Step Up For Students or AAA Scholarship Foundation. The guidelines say parents with questions “should contact their SFO to confirm the eligibility of a purchase or financial transaction before using scholarship funds to ensure compliance with program policies.”
Some purchases need the SFO's approval before you buy. The guidelines call this pre-authorization. Ask whether TBoard needs it.
How you pay for TBoard
TBoard is free to try. After the free trial, a one-time purchase inside the app unlocks it. Nothing renews. On an iPad the purchase goes through Apple, and on an Android tablet through Google Play, so your receipt comes from Apple or Google.
Get your receipt
iPad or iPhone. Apple emails a receipt to the email address on your Apple Account. To find it, search your email for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple”. You can also open the App Store, tap your photo or initials, then tap Apps & Purchase History and Purchase History, or sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Android tablet. Google Play emails an order confirmation to the Google Account you bought with. You can also open the Play Store app, tap your profile icon at the top right, then tap Payments & subscriptions and Budget & history.
Step Up For Students asks for a receipt that shows the complete transaction date and the amount paid. Check that yours shows both before you send it.
Send in your receipt
With Step Up For Students, you send a reimbursement request through your EMA account and include the receipt as proof of payment. Step Up says:
- Purchases made from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 can be sent in until July 31, 2027.
- Allow up to 60 days for a request to be reviewed once all the documents are in.
If AAA Scholarship Foundation runs your child's scholarship, follow its instructions.

TBoard is a letterboard AAC app for iPad and Android tablets: large, well-spaced letters to tap, and speech for whatever is typed. The free trial is the whole app, so you can see whether it fits before you buy.

- Only your SFO can decide whether a purchase is eligible for your child.
